ARTIST STATEMENT

My artistic practice is a dynamic exploration of dance as a conduit for cultural expression and social engagement. Grounded in a rich foundation of competitive dance and conservatory-style training, my work spans diverse styles—merging classical technique with contemporary sensibilities. Both as a choreographer and performer, I delve into themes of identity, community, and the body’s evolving relationship to movement and space.

Throughout my journey, I have had the privilege of training with teachers from a wide range of cultural and artistic backgrounds. These mentors have profoundly shaped my creative voice, instilling in me values of discipline, resilience, and artistic curiosity. Their influence continues to inform my work, which has been featured in major concerts at Elon University—each performance reflecting a commitment to both technical rigor and emotional depth.

My international studies in Florence, Italy, expanded my choreographic lens, introducing me to new methodologies and aesthetic perspectives. This immersive experience not only deepened my technical vocabulary but also reinforced my belief in dance as a global language—capable of expressing complex cultural and personal narratives.

Driven by curiosity and an evolving sense of purpose, my approach to dance resists confinement to a single form or medium. I allow each project to dictate its own structure, drawing from personal research and external influence alike. Whether in the studio or on stage, I use dance as a storytelling tool—layering movement with meaning to reflect the multifaceted nature of identity and culture.

As I prepare to graduate with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance Performance and Choreography, alongside a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, I am eager to build a career in commercial dance. My aim is to continue pushing the boundaries of movement while honoring the diverse voices and narratives that have shaped—and continue to shape—my artistic journey.
